Surround Yourself in Sound

surround sound speakersDid you know that you could be missing out on a lot of the quality you paid for if your cable box is hooked up directly to your brand new flat panel TV set? While a new HDTV is at the top of many shoppers’ lists, most don’t realize how much of the experience they lose watching these broadcasts while listening only through the television’s internal speakers. Much like a new HDTV can open the eyes to a new world of unparalleled pictures, a digital surround sound system can be an epiphany for the ears that you will appreciate for years to come.
By today’s standards, the idea of surround sound is hardly the ground-breaking idea that it was in the early 1990s when home theater first became popular, but the concept is more applicable today than ever before. The litany of choices for home theater owners has never been deeper than today with all the movies, video games, and HD television broadcasts available in surround, and yet the idea of a home theater still seems like a frivolous luxury. Using just the television speakers, you might as well be watching a black and white television with rabbit ears. The difference in quality is monumental.
The digital broadcasts that we watch today are all mixed in the studios with the intention of being enjoyed through a digital surround sound system consisting of at least 5 loudspeakers, one or more sub-woofers, and a central audio video receiver that both powers the speakers, and dictates which speakers play specific sounds. The high definition pictures on your new TV are meant to be balanced by equally high fidelity sound effects. What good is being in the middle of the stadium for the Super Bowl if you can’t hear the crowd around you?
The right surround sound system can take some time and effort to amass, but the resulting experience will have the whole family wondering why you waited so long to take the plunge. A great system designer will take your specific room into account and configure a matching speaker system capable of crafting a lifelike and believable sound stage for your favorite movies and TV shows. When you put a great home theater system into your family room, you never have to worry about buying front row concert tickets again.
